There are some very naughty people in the world. There are some very nice people in the world.
I wasn't going to write about naughty vs. nice, at least not in the context that I'd originally planned -- until I read the LA Times* this morning.
I dumped my first editorial which was all about my latest foray into the local sex shoppe in lovely down town La Habra, California -- to ponder the naughtiness, nay, the downright evil existing in the world today.
Sure, most of you would rather indulge yourselves in my sex shoppe bonanza, but in good conscience I couldn't let this go. If you haven't groaned and "turned the page" thus far, good for you.
My first impulse when reading the heart-breaking article was to be angry, very angry. "HOW could this happen?!"
Indeed. How.
Gun control fanatics are going to have a hey-day with this one. They can rant and rave all they want and use this terrible incident as an excuse for their soap boxing, but the bottom line still exists: Bad things happen to good people regardless of who is in control. The lunatics run asylum and God is dead, yadda yadda yadda. Or something.
I'm hosting a workshop/retreat this April in Joshua Tree, California -- a non judgmental spiritual journey into what I call "opening your inner portal". You can call it whatever you like, but what it is really about is believing that Light exists even in the Darkest moments.
Reading about O'Leary nearly catapulted me into an unforgivable screed regarding ignorant idiots; and I had to back-track for a moment.
A past contributing author here at THQ recently said:
"Every now and then, I'd rather go out on a limb and risk disappointment or worse for that moment of belief that the spark inside humanity is alive and that we are strong enough to overcome." ~Terri Verrette
I asked her if I could use that statement in my headline for the retreat, of course she agreed. If anyone can be an example of surviving through dark days, it's this Blue Collar Goddess and I was struggling to find the brief words to personify my mission. If anyone has a right to be perfectly misanthropic it's yours truly here and yet ...
I am not.
Somewhere inside of me lives a nugget of light, pure and undaunted in its effulgence. It is why I hold on to the belief that God is not dead; that in order for Light to shine, there must be some amount of darkness, or there would be nothing. It's yin and yang. The eternal quest for balance in an unbalanced world.
That's why there will always be Naughty Bits -- and downright Evil B.it.S. I hope you take some time out of your busy schedule this late Winter and Early Spring to indulge yourself with our Naughty Bits. Leave the evil stuff to the lunatics running the show "out there".
*Editors Note:Update -- Feb. 4, 2008 -- link moved to a different article, the original wasn't available for public viewing any longer. My apologies -- as the initial article was quite a bit more detailed.
