Slip Out The Back, Jack. The Anatomy Of Abandonment

I looked for you when the birds
cut the sky at dawn. I looked for you

then, holding in my eyes
the fires of our dream. But

you were not there, nor
was your laughter

present
in the stuttering wind. Yet I

believed I should
find you someday,

someday when
all is quiet and the soft earth

measures my desperation.
So when I look

for you in the blue sky,
I shall find

your laughter
in the medley of the robins.
