From the artist:

"I feel that, more often than not, people don't really know how to process my art and/or how to deal with it on an emotional level.
"Is this woman an artist or a cartoonist?"
"Is she being serious, or is this a joke?"

Most of the time I wonder, myself.
I'm hoping that if I create enough art, all of that extra mental activity will drown out the question so I can't hear it anymore; and it will stop asking me."

Melody Herbert lives in the Washington, D.C. area - - she is 30 years old, married and prefers privacy to fame, although we think that will change with time. Mel was one of THQ's featured artists back in the day when we were poor and struggling as the new e'zine on the block. We're still poor, and we still struggle, but we're not the new 'zine on the block and we felt it was time to drag Mel out of her studio and give us some more of her genius.

We encourage everyone to visit her website; read "Ragdoll", the comic book that she's been perfecting for over ten years, and hopefully purchase some of her art. Yes, we tend to say that with all of our featured artist/photographers, but this time we're more than just a little sincere. Sydney Nash, Production Ed. for THQ is a big fan, and commissioned the cover piece for this issue from Mel. It began with a dream Syd had involving the characters - - it was perfect for the theme. We hope you think so too, and when you arrive at Mel's home away from home on the net, tell her we sent you. Oh ... and buy some art. We insist.
