It Began With This
Once, in a galaxy far, far away --

...back in the day when Literary eZines and the world of online publishing wasn't nearly as prolific or pugnacious; two profound people put together a marvelous plan (we'll stop with the "p" words now) that eventually became The Hiss Quarterly.

Ella McCrystle and Sydney Nash weren't quite sure what would become of their idea. Ms. McCrystle had several acquaintances of some writing fame in her address book, Sydney was a digital diva of some merit. Bored, slightly tipsy, tending towards insanity and spending hours on the phone gossiping led to the creation of THQ. "Something Hissy -- something like the Natl. Enquirer of online 'zines, something that people truly looked forward to reading -- but they might not admit it to their friends. Something a little fey, but not outlandishly weird. Literary, but not over the top. Something a little Kerouac, but not whack."

Five years (and counting) later, The Hiss Quarterly is still going strong. The McCrystle/Nash editorial team became the Fox/Karella/Nash editorial team with other guest appearances from time to time -- we believe THQ is going to be around for a bit.

In the next five years, THQ will research Non Profit status, has intentions of finding a sponsor and high hopes of going to print at least once a year, if not every quarter with the assistance of grants. Presently, THQ is a Labor of Love. Time, energy and personal funds keep it going. We'd love to pay our contributors, and we'd love to have our server space paid for as well; not to mention being compensated in a wee bit of cash for our dedication to the literary craft of being hissy.

We'll see what happens. We've had a fair share of contemporary literary giants (you know who you are) send us their work. Due to their literary contracts, etc. we can't blab their names all over our "front pages". This makes us a little sad. However, we've got some connections and we hope that it will "pay off" in the end. Especially when we go to print with "**** ******" name on the front. In the meantime, please enjoy. Tell your friends, and send us your words. We love them.

In the interest of our writers and artists, each issue is granted one full year of Web visibility -- that is, three quarters past its "current" status. After that, every issue is permanently stored offline, not to be reprinted or used in any way except in a possible future anthology, as agreed to in the Artist's Release.
